Climate change bus on the road

How does awareness of climate change get to the bus and into people's heads?

We asked ourselves the same question and got our heads spinning to turn an exciting idea of the “Naturpark Teutoburger Wald / Eggegebirge” and the “Kommunale Verkehrsgesellschaft Lippe” into reality.

In the sense of a “rolling classroom” under the title “No idea is no solution”, knowledge is to be provided and awareness created - interactively and hands-on. A kind of bus ride with added value in an electrically powered climate change bus (www.klimawandelbus.de).

Interactive screens and information boards as a “module” that can be walked on and experienced - and not just when the bus is stationary, but while it is on public transport. That's easier said than done.

The key challenge was therefore not only to procure an electric bus in compliance with procurement and subsidy law, but also to comply with the whole raft of regulations that apply to vehicles on public transport routes - and there are a lot of them! So the question was: how can a public service bus become a climate change bus?

Once the main players and project participants had been nominated, the first step was to define the interfaces and responsibilities in a meaningful way and to clarify the question of which regulations had to be observed and how they had to be fulfilled in concrete terms.

This was at a time when one of the main players, namely the vehicle manufacturer, first had to be determined in a Europe-wide tendering process. From the outset, it was important that the modified bus could be approved for regular service again.

BLIC developed the basic concept for this, carried out the award procedure and then coordinated the further process and the players and, together with the recommended expert, pushed ahead with the final “modification approval”.

And as you can see - the result is impressive!

We wish you a safe journey in “Lipperland” and a high degree of awareness!
