Technical Visit and Study Tour for senior representatives of the Government of Sindh (Pakistan) in Barcelona, Berlin and Munich.

A significant part of our new project “Integrated Intelligent Transport System for the Karachi Mass Transit Lines of Karachi” is the organization of a Technical Visit and Study Tour for senior representatives of the Pakistani Government and the client KIDCL.  Together with a delegation of the Government of Sindh [GoS] (Pakistan) and the Karachi Infrastructure Development Company we gained an insight into the structure, roles and responsibilities of three transit authorities of metropolitan regions during this first visit from October 24th 2016 until October 28th 2016. The Pakistani delegation was headed by the Minister of Transport of the Government of Sindh, the CFO of the client KIDCL and a senior representative of BLIC’s local partner EA consulting.

All discussions provided technical and organizational aspects with relevance for the Karachi IITS project and the Bus Rapid Transit System. The five-day visit started in Munich at the MVV [Munich Transport and Tariff Association] with an overview inter alia about Munich’s integrated Public Transport System, the MVV Tariff System, a quick glance at the MVV Regional Bus Traffic and Real Time Information abroad the core cities. Thanks to Mr. Norman Stober (MVV) a close exchange between State Minister Mr. Syed Nasir Hussain Shah [Provincial Assembly of Sindh – Ministry of Transport and Mass Transit] and State Minister Ulrike Scharf [Bavarian state ministry of the environment, health and consumer protection] was provided. Afterwards the regional bus operator Scharf Reisen introduced its everyday challenges and provided an interesting travel experience with an oldtimer bus from 1956.

On Tuesday the delegation moved on to Berlin, to the VBB [Transport Association of the states of Berlin and Brandenburg] to gain an understanding amongst others about the structure and organization, clearing house revenue sharing and business rules for the entire Public Transport in the Metropolitan Area of Berlin.

Furthermore the VMZ [Traffic Management Center of Berlin] informed about the holistic approach of coordinating as well as informing participants of (private and public) transport in a metropolitan city.

The last stop of this stay was the meeting with the Metro System Operator of Barcelona [Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona, TMB], where the delegation from Pakistan was able to see a different integrated Transport and Tariff System and to also visit the Metro and Bus Control Centre.
